Spinach / Palak Rice

Spinach is considered a rich source of iron and calcium. The iron in spinach is poorly absorbed by the body unless eaten with vitamin C. Excellent levels of manganese are found in spinach. It also contains very good amounts of magnesium, potassium, iron and calcium, copper, phosphorous, zinc are all found in good amounts in spinach. Spinach is very rich in Vitamin A, which makes it beneficial for weak eyes. Diabetics can particularly benefit from spinach since it is known that eating spinach regularly can stabilize blood sugar and prevent it from fluctuating often. Spinach is known to be an anti-aging vegetable and reverses age related breakdowns, making you youthful and fresh. It also has a good amount of Vitamin K which helps in the clotting of blood in case of injuries.

Palak Rice

What we need :

Palak - 1 bunch
Rice - 1 cup
Cloves - 2 no
Cardamom - 1 no
Cinnamon - 1 medium size
Tomato - 1 no large size
Onion - 1 no
Green Chillies - 2 no or as per to your taste
Garlic - 4 cloves
Chili powder - 1/2 spn
Garam Masala - 1/2 spn

Salt to your taste

How To Do :


  • Cook rice with cloves, cardamom, cinnamon and keep it a side.
  • Make tomato puree and keep it a side.
  • Fry the chopped palak, garlic cloves, green chilies for 5 min and make it a paste, just fry them till palak is soft.
  • In a pan fry chopped onions, turmeric powder, tomato paste until oil separates.
  • Add palak paste, fry for 3minutes and add chili powder, garam masala, salt and fry until oil separates.
  • Now add cooked rice to this paste.


Here is my Palak Rice , tastes good with onion raitha. As it has all the spices in it one can have as it is without any side dishes too.

Kakarakaya Pulusu

Bitter Gourd many will hate its bitter taste, either you love it or hate it , like most bitter-tasting foods, bitter gourd stimulates digestion. Its very helpful for people with sluggish digestion, dyspepsia, and constipation.

Bitter gourd has been associated with lowering sugar levels in people suffering from diabetes, fights aginst cancer and number of infections , effective in the treatment of psoriasis, generates slimming effects in the body, prevents eye complications, bitter tonic properties made it effective as a blood purifier.
Fresh juice of bitter gourd is good for piles patients.

Kakarakaya Pulusu

What we need :

Bitter Gourd - 3/4 no
Tamarind pulp - 1 bowl
Onions - 2 no (chopped)
Green Chillies - 2 no
Red chillie powder - 1 spoon
Jaggery - small piece/ 2tbsp / as per your taste

Salt and Red chillie Powder for enough taste

How To Do :

  • Peel the outer layer of bitter gourd. If you peel the layer completely you wont get bitter taste , so as to your taste peel the layer.
  • Cut them into pieces and wash them in salt water. So that bitterness will go.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add green chillies and chopped onions and fry till translucent.
  • Add bitter gourd pieces and fry till they turn soft.
  • Add red chillie powder, salt and fry for 1min.
  • Add tamarind pulp , close the lid and cook for 10min.
  • Ones you feel that process is complete and can switch off the flame add jaggery and cook for 2min more.


Here i have my Kakarakaya pulusu with mudda pappu. This tastes good with plan white rice.
